Black Stallions: Rival jockey comedy may find its home on Netflix

Deadline reports that Netflix is in the final stages of closing a deal to distribute the comedy Black Stallions on its streaming platform. The film has been the subject of some competitive bidding between distributors. While no deals have been finalized just yet, it’s looking like Netflix may be coming on top.

Black Stallions is about brothers and rival jockeys played by Lil Rel Howery (Get Out) and Don Cheadle (Avengers: Infinity War). Kevin Hart (Jumanji) will also appear in a supporting role. The film was written by Jay Longino, who penned this summer’s basketball comedy Uncle Drew.

The move comes as Netflix continues to expand its library of original and exclusive content. The streaming service has recently been acquiring a number of diverse projects. This includes both Mowgli and Animal Farm from director Andy Serkis, Murder Mystery starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston, and the upcoming series Maniac, which reunites Superbad co-stars Emma Stone and Jonah Hill.

Hart is also co-producing Black Stallions through his company, Hartbeat Productions, along with John Cheng. Howery will also appear in Netflix’s upcoming Bird Box with star Sandra Bullock. Cheadle can be next seen in the as-yet-untitled Avengers 4, as well as the Showtime original series Black Monday, both slated for a 2019 release.
