The Power of Glove is an upcoming documentary directed by Andrew Austin and Adam Ward. The film takes a deep look at the Power Glove, a notoriously shoddy peripheral for the NES that got some huge attention due to an appearance in The Wizard, a movie that's pretty much one giant Nintendo commercial. In an interview with Polygon, Ward discusses why he and Austin set out to make this documentary.
”When we looked at what other things been done on the Power Glove, we noticed a running theme of hyperbole, not really examining it thoroughly, and just sort of saying ‘it sucks,’ which is fine. There are definitely some extremely entertaining YouTube videos on it. But what we wanted to do was something about the people, and we wanted it to try to remain unbiased and to do that we couldn’t go to much into hyperbole,” he said. “We wanted to make sure we were letting them tell their story.”
The Power of Glove is screening in Raleigh, North Carolina at the Longleaf Film Festival on May 12, and then the Glass City Film Festival at Toledo on May 19.
