Following the show’s recent season two premiere, HBO has announced they have renewed the Emmy winning drama series Westworld for a third season.
“It’s been an extraordinary pleasure to work with the exceptionally talented Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, as well as their gifted cast and crew,” said Casey Bloys, president, HBO Programming, in a press statement. “From the inspired storytelling to the incredible visuals, we are so excited to see where the next chapter will take us.”
The series returned last week for its ten-episode second season, drawing in 2.1 million viewers on HBO at 9 p.m. The total goes up to 3 million when encore and HBO Go and HBO Now users are factored in. It’s no surprise that the series was renewed as it had attained Game of Thrones viewing status. The series also was nominated for 22 Emmys last year, ultimately winning five.
Much of the cast from Season 1 returned for Season 2, including Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton, Ed Harris, Jimmi Simpson, Jeffrey Wright, James Marsden, Ben Barnes, Luke Hemsworth, and Tessa Thompson. This season sees the addition of Gustaf Skarsgård, Jonathan Tucker, Fares Fares, Katja Herbers, Peter Mullan, Rinko Kikuchi, and Kiki Sukezane.
WESTWORLD was created for television by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, who are executive producers with J.J. Abrams, Richard J. Lewis, Roberto Patino, Athena Wickham and Ben Stephenson. Production companies, Kilter Films and Bad Robot Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television; based on the film written by Michael Crichton.
Westworld Official Synopsis:
Live without limits in a world where every human appetite can be indulged. Starring Evan Rachel Wood, Anthony Hopkins, Jeffrey Wright, James Marsden, Thandie Newton, Ed Harris and more — this dark odyssey follows the dawn of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin.
Westworld airs on Sundays at 9 p.m. on HBO, HBO Go, and HBO Now.
