Avengers: Infinity War dominates with another $275.1 million worldwide

Marvel Studios‘ Avengers: Infinity War dominated with another $275.1 million worldwide this weekend to take its global total to $1.164 billion! The juggernaut was the fastest ever to cross the $1 billion mark globally, doing so in just 11 days of release on Saturday. The record was previously held by Disney’s own Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which surpassed the mark in 12 days.

Domestically, Avengers: Infinity War‘s second weekend of $113 million is the second-best ever behind only Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($149.2 million). With a domestic total of $450.8 million, Infinity War is also the second-fastest release to cross the $400 million mark, also behind only The Force Awakens. The movie is already up to No. 15 on the all-time domestic list.

Internationally, Avengers: Infinity War added $162.6 million this weekend and has earned a total of $713.3 million, with China still to go on May 11. It opened in Russia this weekend and set a new opening weekend record topping the previous best posted by Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales with an estimated $17.6 million. The $713.3 million already puts Infinity War at No. 24 on the international all-time list. The international highlights so far are as follows: Korea ($69.1M); UK ($67.2M); Mexico ($48.7M); Brazil ($44.3M); India; ($35.7M); Australia ($34.5M); France ($31.5M); Germany ($28.8M); Japan ($23.9M); Indonesia ($20.6M); Philippines ($19.7M); Italy ($18.9M); Spain ($17.7M); Russia ($17.6M); Taiwan ($17.0M); Hong Kong ($15.8M); Thailand ($15.8M); and Malaysia ($14.3M).

The Anthony and Joe Russo-directed film stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Don Cheadle, Tom Holland, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Peter Dinklage, Benedict Wong, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Gwyneth Paltrow, Benicio Del Toro, Josh Brolin, and Chris Pratt.

Opening in second place domestically was MGM and Lionsgate/Pantelion Films’ Overboard, starring Eugenio Derbez, Anna Faris, Eva Longoria, John Hannah, and Mel Rodriguez. The film earned $14.8 million from 1,623 theaters, an average of $9,088 per site, making it the highest-grossing opening in Pantelion’s history. Overboard received an A- CinemaScore from audiences.

A Quiet Place (Paramount Pictures) dropped one spot to third place with $7.6 million and has reached $159.9 million domestically after five weeks. Internationally, the film added $4.1 million and has grossed $95.4 million, for a worldwide total of $255.3 million, with China (May 18), France (June 20), and Japan (Sept. 14) still to go. Made for just $17 million, A Quiet Place was directed by John Krasinski, who also stars opposite his real-life wife Emily Blunt, Noah Jupe, and Millicent Simmonds.

STXfilms comedy I Feel Pretty, starring Amy Schumer, added $4.9 million in the fourth spot to take its three-week total to $37.8 million. The film opened in one international territory this weekend, the UK, where it earned $1.7 million. Written and directed by Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein, the $32 million film also stars Michelle Williams, Rory Scovel, Emily Ratajkowski, Busy Phillips, Aidy Bryant, Tom Hopper, Naomi Campbell, and Lauren Hutton.

Warner Bros. Pictures action adventure Rampage rounded out the top five domestically with $4.6 million. The $120 million video game adaptation has grossed $84.8 million in North America after four weeks. Internationally, Rampage added $13.7 million from 63 territories and has now earned $293.1 million. The global total is $377.9 million, with $150.8 million of that number coming from China alone. The Brad Peyton-directed film stars Dwayne Johnson, Naomie Harris, Malin Akerman, Jake Lacy, Joe Manganiello, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Also opening this weekend was Jason Reitman and Diablo Cody’s Tully (Focus Features), starring Charlize Theron, Mackenzie Davis, Mark Duplass, and Ron Livingston. The film debuted in sixth place with $3.2 million from 1,353 theaters, an average of $2,355 per location.
