Hulu's The Path Cancelled After Three Seasons

Hulu’s The Path axed after three seasons

The drama series starring Aaron Paul, Michelle Monaghan, and Hugh Dancy  will not be returning for a fourth season, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Creator Jessica Goldberg revealed that the streaming service Hulu had cancelled the series after 36 widely acclaimed episodes and that though she is saddened by the decision, she is “brimming with gratitude and pride” for getting the opportunity to tell the stories of “this very strange and unique world.” Goldberg also gave a lot of credit to her producing partners and other cast and crew members for bringing the show to life and giving thanks to Hulu and Universal Television, who produced the show, for “taking a shot on this show.”

The series followed a family in the center of a controversial cult as the patriarch begins to have a crisis of faith in his movement while the unofficial leader of the movement attempts to expand their influence around the world. Paul (Breaking Bad) starred as the patriarch of the family, Dancy (Hannibal) starred as the ambitious leader, Michelle Monaghan (True Detective) starred as Paul’s wife, and Rockmond Dunbar (Prison Break) as an FBI agent investigating the cult for some of its questionable secret tactics while also having a crisis of faith at home.

The Path joins a recent slew of cancellations from Hulu as they have undergone a scripted-program overhaul, with dramas including Shut Eye and Chance and comedies Difficult People and Casual all receiving the axe, despite helping launch the service’s original programming block. Hulu still has a number of new and returning programs to its library, including the second season of the acclaimed The Handmaid’s Tale and upcoming debuts Castle Rock, based on Stephen King’s stories, and the George Clooney Catch-22 miniseries.
