The DCEU is no stranger to being bashed on by fans, but Shazam! director David F. Sandberg pointed out some very basic information to a fanboy who had some not-so-nice things to say about the upcoming film. The fan tweeted at Zachary Levi, Shazam! artist Jerry Orway, and film director David F. Sandberg before being shut down by the film’s director.
“Unfortunately Mr. Ordway, they are going with the #new52 cast, which means the #new52 origin, where Billy is literally the worst kid the wizard has ever met. Better steer clear of this movie till the #DCEU gets a reboot. #Shazam #CaptainMarvel”
David F. Sandberg responded with:
“Not to stop you from having an opinion about something that doesn’t exist yet, it’s the internet after all, but as I designate a movie the obligatory Best/Worst Ever!! I find it helpful sometimes to have more info than a few character names.”
It’s true that not every film’s origin is going to make fans happy. Before Captain American: First Avenger, Iron Man, and even Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, fans of the source materials were not happy with the choice of Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., and Ben Affleck for their rules in the big superhero films. But now, it’s hard to imagine anyone else in those roles. Sandberg may be right in saying that we should all wait for a bit more information than a few character names before bashing on a project that will probably make other fans happy for years to come.
