Joe Morton details plans for the Cyborg movie

Recent shake ups at Warner Bros.‘ DC Films branch have raised questions about which of the previously-announced DC projects will be making its way to the big screen. One that has seemed up in the air even before all that was the planned Cyborg solo movie starring Ray Fisher. Actor Joe Morton, who plays the character’s father in both Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, has revealed some bits of what the film could feature, however, including (what sounds like) flashbacks for the character.

“From what I understand, there will be a Cyborg movie,” he tells ET. “It will be about him and I, and about the family that he came from, how he becomes the Cyborg, et cetera, But from whence he came, as well….I think it’s very exciting I think it’s exciting because there aren’t that many, if any, black superheros, and in his case in particular, because there is no alias, because there is nothing for him to hide behind, and that he has to be who he is all the time. I think it’s a great kind of allegory for what it means to be black in this country.”

Fisher appeared in Batman v Superman and Justice League as the character and at the conclusion of that film got a costume upgrade making him appear more like his comic book basis. The Cyborg film was originally set for a 2020 release date, but it remains to be seen if that will still hold.

Cyborg made his first appearance in 1980’s DC Comics Presents #26. In the “New 52” continuity, he’s a high school athlete who, after getting caught in a S.T.A.R. Labs explosion, is given powerful bionic abilities that lead to him becoming a founding member of the Justice League.
