It’s the holiday season, and that means there will be plenty of people doing some last-minute shopping. There are so many video games, movies and TV shows released for 2017, and to help give you some geeky ideas on what to get, we have compiled a list below.
Since the Nerd Reactor team is filled with gamers, we have a quite a few games we want to recommend.
Christopher Nolan Collection 4K Blu-ray Box Set
Bought a fancy new 4K TV and don’t have any 4K films to watch on it? Well, look no further than the Christopher Nolan 4K Ultra HD box set. Not only does the set feature The Dark Knight Trilogy but includes 4 of his popular films ever. Considering that Nolan is a stickler for video and audio quality, this is a must-have for any fan.
It’s available on Amazon for $147.92.
Westworld: Season One 4K Blu-ray (Limited Edition Tin)
Westworld has everything you can ask for in a Western/sci-fi series on HBO. Question yourself as you root for the artificial beings stuck inside an amusement park for rich people. The tin includes 3 4K Blu-ray discs, 3 Blu-ray discs, corporate guidebook (handbook for new “Westworld employees”), and features that dive deeper into the series’ intro, the climactic ending, the player piano and more.
It’s available on Amazon for $39.96.
Game of Thrones: The Complete Seventh Season Blu-ray
The seventh season of Game of Thrones moves at a quicker pace than the previous seasons, and this time, winter is finally here. Watch all 7 episodes featuring the moment many fans have been waiting for, the meeting of Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen. The Blu-ray set includes the bonus Conquest & Rebellion Blu-ray, an animated history of the Seven Kingdoms.
It will be available on December 12th on Amazon and Best Buy and retails for $39.99.
Pokémon Pikachu Coin Bank
Pokémon Pikachu Coin Bank is a very cute item, and the little Pokemon will take your money while making cute noises. There are over 200 sounds and phrases.
Available on ThinkGeek for $22.99.
SNES Classic Edition
Unlike the release disaster that was the NES Classic, you still have better chances of getting the SNES Classic. That’s not necessarily a bad thing since many consider the SNES to be the best console ever made. So it’s a no-brainer to get the SNES Classic since it comes with a wide array of classic SNES games. Relive your childhood or play a classic game for the very time. Either way, it’s a good addition to any wish list.
Available on Target for $79.99.
KontrolFreeks
If you’re a console gamer, KontrolFreeks are highly recommended to improve your gaming and to make your thumbsticks last longer. With the extenders, they give you a better range of motion, enhancing your skills on the FPS battlefield.
The Destiny 2 Thumbsticks retail for $17.99 on KontrolFreek.
Assassin’s Creed Origins
Assassin’s Creed Origins takes us back to where it all began, on the mean streets of Egypt. Follow Bayek as you bear witness to the birth of the Assassin Brotherhood. Like previous entries of the series, you also get to interact with some of the most prolific historical figures the world has ever seen like Julius Caesar and Cleopatra.
Available on Amazon for the PS4 ($49.99) and Xbox One ($49.94), and Steam for $59.99.
Super Mario Odyssey
This is the quintessential game for any Nintendo/Mario fan. In what seems like a game inspired by Super Mario 64, Odyssey hits so many high points from mechanics to level design and so much more. It’s an adventure that will keep you coming back more often than you thought.
Available for the Nintendo Switch on Amazon for $59.88.
Life Is Strange: Before the Storm
The prequel to Life Is Strange, Life Is Strange: Before the Storm follows the struggles of Chloe as she navigates school, love and a dysfunctional family. The emotional third-person adventure game will lead to something more sinister in the small town of Arcadia Bay.
The first two episodes are now available on PS4, Xbox One and PC ($16.99). The third episode is coming soon.
Injustice 2
Injustice 2 takes place after the events of Injustice: Gods Among Us, and brings back the fun fighting game featuring DC characters like Batman, Superman, Harley Quinn, Supergirl, Wonder Woman, The Flash and many more. This game has one of the best story campaigns ever for a fighting game, and NetherRealm Studios has raised the bar for character animation.
It’s available for PS4 and Xbox One on Best Buy and PC for $49.99.
Call of Duty: WWII
Call of Duty returns this year with a throwback to its WWII roots. A compelling and immersive story really drives the replayability of the game. Not to mention a fun, balanced multiplayer and of course, zombies too. Read our review here.
It’s available for PS4 ($39.99) and Xbox One ($34.80) on Amazon and Steam ($59.99).
Destiny 2
Destiny 2 overcomes the sins of its predecessor and delivers a more complete game. A full co-op campaign will ensure you don’t have to save the universe on your own. With more events and activities to do, you’ll certainly have plenty to do. Let’s not forget that the first DLC, Curse of Osiris, will be releasing this week as well.
It’s available for PS4 ($36.95) and Xbox One ($36.95) on Amazon and PC ($59.99).
Middle-earth: Shadow of War
The sequel to Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, Middle-earth: Shadow of War follows Talion and Celebrimbor once again as they continue on their journey to defeat the Orcs and Sauron. The game’s fighting mechanics are back, and killing Orcs is as cool as the previous game. The game has received some flak for its microtransactions and final act, so I suggest that you simply put the controller away when that happens.
It’s available for PS4 ($48.85) and Xbox One ($48.68) on Amazon and Steam ($59.99).
Star Wars: Battlefront 2
Despite all the recent bad publicity that Battlefront 2 has received, the game is actually still worth getting. The campaign is a little short, but there is more content (free) on the way to help remedy that. Multiplayer is where BF2 shines, especially if you’re a Star Wars fan; playing as iconic characters in renowned locations with the most infamous vehicles known in the galaxy.
It retails for $59.99 and is available for PS4 and Xbox One on Amazon and for PC on Origin.
Forza Motorsport 7
Forza is to Xbox what Gran Turismo is to Playstation. In Forza 7, it takes you back to the core of what racing is all about, the cars and the tracks. It boasts a career mode that focuses on testing your abilities across many different car platforms, pushing you to flex your multifaceted driving skills.
It’s available for the Xbox One on Amazon for $39.82.
Gran Turismo Sport
Playstation’s big, bad racer is back with a few new tricks up its sleeve. Gran Turismo’s well-known campaign has been changed this time around for a new esports-type platform. Fear not, as there is a campaign DLC coming soon. The bread and butter though is the multiplayer, racing against some of the world’s best drivers is as satisfying as you’d imagine.
It’s available for the PS4 on Amazon for $39.99.
Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus
The New Colossus comes in hot on the heels of its critically-acclaimed older sibling, Wolfenstein: The New Order. The game still follows our hero B.J. Blazkowicz, a World War II veteran with a penchant for killing Nazis. The only difference is that he’s working to liberate the U.S. from Nazi control, as they did win the war. If you’re a fan of Dark Souls, you’ll love this game, as it feels like an FPS version of it. You will die a lot…and enjoy doing it.
It’s available for PS4 ($39.82) and Xbox One ($39.82) on Amazon and Steam ($59.99).
What Remains of Edith Finch
What Remains of Edith Finch is a first-person exploration game where you come back to the Finch house… a place that reveals how each one of your relatives has died. Will you be able to escape the curse, if there is such a thing? It’s a haunting yet beautiful game about family and hope.
It’s available on PS4 and Steam for $19.99.
