In an unprecedented move, Sony Pictures and director Ridley Scott are cutting Kevin Spacey out of All the Money in the World, a movie that is still expected to hit theaters on December 22. Replacing Spacey in the role of J. Paul Getty will be Christopher Plummer, who will film the scenes in reshoots in the upcoming weeks.

The move comes after Netflix said it would not be involved with any further production of House of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey. They also will not be moving forward with the release of the film Gore, which was in post-production, starring and produced by Spacey. Production on House of Cards Season 6 had been suspended following sexual assault and harassment allegations against Spacey.

All the Money in the World follows the kidnapping of 16-year-old John Paul Getty III (Charlie Plummer) and the desperate attempt by his devoted mother Gail (Michelle Williams) to convince his billionaire grandfather (Spacey) to pay the ransom. When Getty Sr. refuses, Gail attempts to sway him as her son’s captors become increasingly volatile and brutal. With her son’s life in the balance, Gail and Getty’s advisor (Mark Wahlberg) become unlikely allies in the race against time that ultimately reveals the true and lasting value of love over money.

Directed by Ridley Scott (Alien: Covenant, The Martian, Gladiator) from a script by David Scarpa (The Day the Earth Stood Still, The Last Castle), the true-life drama is based on the book by John Pearson.
