Fox 21 and Hulu are partnering on a series based on the best-selling video game Hitman from IO Interactive, according to Deadline. The script for the pilot will be written by John Wick franchise creator Derek Kolstad. Kolstad wrote the first film and did the script for the third film in the series, which hits theaters in 2019.

The Hitman series will be executive produced by Kolstad with Adrian Askariech and Chuck Gordon. Bert Salke, Jane Francis, Gloria Fan and Kira Innes will oversee for Fox 21 and Jordan Helman will oversee for Hulu. The site reports that the hope is for Hitman to become a flagship series.

The game franchise has sold more than 25 million copies. The first game, Hitman: Codename 47 launched in 2000 and was followed by Hitman 2: Silent Assassin in 2002, Hitman: Contracts in 2004, Hitman: Blood Money in 2006, Hitman: Trilogy in 2007, Hitman: Absolution in 2012, Hitman: Go in 2014, Hitman: Sniper in 2015 and Hitman in 2016. The latest game in the series sold 7 million copies. IO Interactive has two more games in development.

The Hitman video game franchise centers around a character named Agent 47 who is also called 47 and Mr. 47. He’s a cloned assassin-for-hire and his skills mean he’s highly sought after. Mortan Iversen wrote the scripts for the first two games and contributed to a two others. The final game in the series so far was released episodically, from March 2016 through December of that year.

There were two films based on the game franchise, both released by Fox. The first was titled Hitman and was released in 2007. The film starred Timothy Olyphant, Dougray Scott, Robert Knepper and Olga Kurylenko. The second film, Hitman: Agent 47 was released in 2015 starred Rupert Friend, Hannah Ware, Zachary Quinto and Ciaran Hinds.
