Deadline reports that two new additions have been made to the cast of Syfy‘s Superman prequel series, Krytpon, with the addition of actress Paula Malcomson (Ray Donovan) as Charys and Blake Ritson (Da Vinci’s Demons) as the villain Brainiac.

Malcomson’s Charys is described as the matriarch of House El who helps her son Seg navigate the treacherous pitfalls of Kandor City, their Kryptonian home embattled with oppression and revolt.

Brainiac, of course, is the parasitic, hyper-advanced alien android of immense intelligence and one of Superman’s oldest and most dangerous enemies. He was first created by Otto Binder and Al Plastino in Action Comics #242 back 1958. In some continuities of the Superman story, Brainiac is the central figure responsible for the destruction of Krypton (and the preservation of Kandor into a tiny bottle).

The pair join Cameron Cuffe (The Halcyon), who plays Seg-El, alongside Georgina Campbell as Lyta Zod, Elliot Cowan as Daron-Vex, and Shaun Sipos as DC Hero Adam Strange.

Set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet, Krypton follows Superman’s grandfather (Cameron Cuffe, The Halcyon) — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed — as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos. The Seg-El name is both a nod to Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel and a reference to John Byrne’s 1980s miniseries, “The World of Krypton.” Cameron Cuffe is set to play Seg-El along with Georgina Campbell as Lyta Zod.

Krypton will be executive produced by David S. Goyer (Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, The Dark Knight trilogy) through his Phantom Four banner. The pilot teleplay and story is written by David S. Goyer & Ian Goldberg (Once Upon a Time, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles). Krypton will be produced by Warner Horizon Television and is based on characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, published by DC Comics. Damian Kindler (Sleepy Hollow) will serve as executive producer and showrunner.
