It’s been a huge trend within the last few years to adapt video games in to films. From 2014’s Need for Speed to 2016’s Assassin’s Creed, and even the upcoming 2018 films Tomb Raider and Rampage, we’ve seen a rise in filmmakers tapping into the video game market for movie ideas. One of those films that has been on everyone’s radar within the last two years has been the announcement of an untitled Sonic the Hedgehog adaptation.
We mentioned last year about the news of Tim Miller joining the team of Sony’s project, but that was the last anyone had heard anything. It’s been almost a year, and not a single thing has been announced…until today. According to THR, Paramount Pictures has nabbed the movie rights to the video game after Sony Entertainment put it into turnaround.
Paramount plans on making a movie that will blend live action and CGI animation as it brings Sonic to the big screen for the first time. Hopefully it will look much better than the last time a video game based film tried to do this (I’m talking about you, Pixels).
