Contrary to those who thought the 3DS would simply wither away after the Switch’s success, Nintendo is still pushing the handheld. Not only did a New Nintendo 2DS XL release earlier this year, but a SNES-themed New Nintendo 3DS XL is scheduled for a Nov. 27 launch. The catch is, the retro-designed handheld is an Amazon exclusive (so, no waiting in line).
There are a couple of notes about this New Nintendo 3DS XL within the Amazon listing. For one, the price is $199.
Also, the bullet points below come from underneath the “About the Product” section.
- The New Nintendo 3DS XL system combines next-generation portable gaming
- The New Nintendo 3DS XL system plays all Nintendo DS games. Nintendo DS games will not appear in 3D.
- AC adapter sold separately. New Nintendo 3DS XL uses the same AC adapter as the Nintendo DSi, Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 2DS systems.
- 3D Mode recommended for Ages 7+
- Includes download code for Super Mario Kart (Super NES).
Current 2DS/3DS owners already know the popular handheld offers a decent retro library in the eShop. Like the recently launched SNES Classic, the 3DS is a retro console in itself with select NES, SNES, Game Boy and even Sega Genesis titles.
Now the 3DS will look like an SNES too.
