Just in time for this weekend’s New York Comic-Con, Marvel released the poster for the new Freeform (formerly ABC Family) series Cloak and Dagger.
Based on the Marvel Comics characters created by Bill Mantlo and Ed Hannigan, the series centers around Tandy Bowen aka Dagger (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone Johnson aka Cloak (Aubrey Joseph), two teenage runaways who fall in love and obtain powers of light and darkness. Together, they learn their powers are greater together than apart – Cloak’s ability to control dark dimensions is fueled by Dagger’s psionic light energy.
The new poster has an animated version of Cloak and Dagger in front of the Roxxon Corporation. If you know the Marvel Universe, you’d know this corporation has had ties with Hydra. In the original comic series, Cloak and Dagger obtained their powers through chemist Dr. Marshall working for Maggia (the mafia), but this new series seems to be going in a different direction. Based on the trailer, the series looks to be following their Ultimate Marvel version where the two were injured in a car accident and experimented on by Roxxon Corp, which gave them their powers.
Marvel hinted that more details will emerge from this weekend’s New York Comic-Con. Fans attending the convention may be able to preview the new series at the Freeform activation center located on the corner of 11th and 37th Street from October 5th through the 8th.
Cloak and Dagger will premiere in 2018 on Freeform.
