Reggie Fils-Aimé tells public not to pay scalpers for SNES Classic

Trusting Nintendo can be difficult at times. While the House of Mario has brought gamers countless hours of joy with its entertainment products, it also disappoints its followers. When the NES Classic released last year, Nintendo claimed the high demand simply surprised them. The company gets another chance to redeem themselves with the SNES Classic.

The latest Nintendo retro console remake will come out on September 29 at a suggested retail price of $79.99.

So, did Nintendo shortchange followers on purpose with the NES Classic?

Companies such as Nintendo aim to meet demand exactly or miss below the point in order to generate the most profit. This logic will not satisfy customers though. And scalpers will undoubtedly do their best to take advantage of the situation.

Despite the fear of another widespread shortage, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aimé hopes its followers will avoid paying for a higher price online.

“I would strongly urge you not to over-bid on an SNES Classic on any of the auction sites,” Fils-Aimé told the Financial Times (via Gizmodo). “You shouldn’t [have to] pay more than $79.99.”

The statement sounds promising, although it does not seem likely. Considering the Super NES and its place in history, the demand should be just as high as the NES Classic. Even if collectors own all the games individually, this product will still look appealing as another collector’s item. If the product cannot be found, people may just resort to emulators.

If nothing else, fans can get their pitchforks ready when the SNES Classic inevitably sells out everywhere.
