For six years, EDC has entertained Las Vegas with its extravagant stages, blockbuster DJ’s, and all-night partying. After this year’s EDC in June, Insomniac founder and CEO Pasquale Rotella stated there would be changes coming up for EDC 2018, and that everything could be shaken up. Many speculated this to be a venue and/or date change of the festival, as this and the previous year’s date of mid-June were some of the hottest on record. I can personally attest to this, as it was some of the hottest temperatures I’d ever experienced at a festival, especially one at night.
On September 8th, Rotella announced that EDC would be staying at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, but that the festival dates would be May 18-20. That date change is huge, as temperatures shouldn’t be in the triple digits as they had been before. Not only will there be a date change though, but gates will be opening earlier due to cooler weather as well. To go along with that, for the first time ever there will be the opportunity to camp at EDC. According to Rotella, that includes RV’s, campsites, sound camps and more. For those still choosing to get a hotel room on the Strip, there’s an all-new independent shuttle company that specializes in big sporting and music events taking over.
There will also be an opening ceremony at the cosmicMeadow each day before sunset featuring extended sets from different artists. Overall, it seems that these few changes alone look to make the entire EDC experience go a lot smoother and easier. Now because of the earlier date next year, tickets and camping passes will go on sale at the end of September, the 28th to be exact. I can’t wait to see what else Insomniac has planned for next year, as they have a fairly high bar to pass after this year’s show.
