Michael B. Jordan and director Jennifer Yuh Nelson in talks for A Bittersweet Life

Michael B. Jordan (CreedFruitvale Station) and director Jennifer Yuh Nelson (Spawn TV seriesKung Fu Panda 2 and 3) are attached to the upcoming film A Bittersweet Life, a remake of the 2005 Korean cult hit film, according to Deadline. Jordan will play a mobster who becomes conflicted after being ordered to kill his mistress. The filmmakers are reportedly looking at this as a “high concept, character driven” film with the possibility for a franchise. Lee Byung-hun starred in the original film. The Fox film will be produced by 21 Laps’ Shawn Levy, Dan Levine and Dan Cohen with CJ Entertainment. Jason Young will oversee for Fox.

Jordan first hit the scene playing the role of Vince Howard in the NBC drama Friday Night Lights from 2009-2011, and played Wallace in the HBO series The Wire. He also appeared on the ABC soap opera All My Children. Since then, Jordan has been seen in films like the critically-acclaimed Fruitvale Station and the Rocky sequel film Creed. He played Johnny Storm, a.k.a. the Human Torch, in the recent reboot of Fantastic Four. Jordan is currently filming the HBO film Fahrenheit 451 with Michael Shannon. He’ll next appear in the Disney/Marvel film Black Panther where he’ll play the role of Erik Killmonger. He’ll also appear as Adonis Creed in the upcoming sequel Creed II.

Nelson is known for her work in animation, winning an Annie Award for Best Storyboarding in an Animated Feature Production for the opening of Kung Fu Panda. She directed Kung Fu Panda 2, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, the second woman in history to do so. She directed Kung Fu Panda 3 as well.
