Ninja Theory, the developer of Heavenly Sword, Enslaved, and DmC: Devil May Cry, is back once again with the action/adventure title Hellblade: Senuas Sacrifice. This grim fantasy title is filled with great action. But more importantly, there’s a focus on a very emotional narrative at mental illness that really hasn’t been done before.
While on her journey, Senua will dive into the darkest parts of her mind while fighting for her survival in a very grim world. Ninja Theory is known for its pedigree of excellent combat mixed with strong narratives, and Hellblade looks to fit this bill just like its past projects. The game also utilizes various environmental puzzles that often will require the player to view their surrounding area differently in order to solve them.
Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice has been out for just two days, and already it’s sitting at the top of the charts for popularity on GOG and third on Steam’s marketplace. Not too bad for an independent game.
Another thing to note is that even though early reports show that the experience is much shorter than other bigger titles, it still excels with a strong single player experience. It’s also a big point to note that the entire game was developed in-house with no portion of it being contracted out.
Check out the release trailer below and let us know if this is one grim fantasy that you will be diving into.
Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is currently available for PS4 and PC via Steam and GOG at the price of $29.99
