Sarah Paulson is still set to star in American Crime Story: Katrina as the show changes source materials
The upcoming third installment of American Crime Story is going through some major changes. American Crime Story: Katrina, which will now use the book “Five Days at Memorial: Life and Death in a Storm-Ravaged Hospital” by Sheri Fink, according to Variety. The show was originally going to be based on the book “The Great Deluge” by Douglas Brinkley. Scott Rudin who had previously acquired the rights to “Five Days at Memorial” will join as an executive producer.

Here is the info on the book from Amazon: “…reporter Sheri Fink reconstructs 5 days at Memorial Medical Center and draws the reader into the lives of those who struggled mightily to survive and maintain life amid chaos. After Katrina struck and the floodwaters rose, the power failed, and the heat climbed, exhausted caregivers chose to designate certain patients last for rescue. Months later, several of those caregivers faced criminal allegations that they deliberately injected numerous patients with drugs to hasten their deaths.”
In addition to the source material change for American Crime Story: Katrina, cast members Annette Bening, Matthew Broderick and Dennis Quaid will no longer appear in the show. Sarah Paulson will still appear as Dr. Anna Pou, who was charged, along with two ICU nurses, with second-degree murder for the deaths of patients.
Katrina was supposed to be the second entry in the American Crime Story series. Season 1 People v O.J. Simpson received 22 Emmy Award nominations and it won nine Emmys. It also won the Golden Globe, BAFTA, AFI, PGA, WGA and TCA awards and it was the most critically-acclaimed program of 2016. Season two will now be the story of the murder of fashion designer Gianni Versace and will debut in early 2018.
