SDCC 2017: New ‘It’ film debuts more clips and a new trailer!

San Diego’s Comic Con has been an absolute blast! From the many cosplayers and their extremely creative outfits, to each of the incredible panels and celebrities that grace every second of this enormous beast of a Con. One of the best things that we got to experience were special clips shown exclusively to SDCC attendees, with an introduction from the master of horror himself, Stephen King! Oh, and did I forget to mention that we got to see a brand new trailer? Yeah, that happened.

With his stamp of approval already set in the stonework of Twitter, King relayed a quick message to the fans at SDCC to let them know that he’s excited about the upcoming film! “Enjoy this exclusive look… if you can.”

Clip #1

In the first clip, we see all the boys (Jaeden Lieberher’s Bill Denbrough, Finn Wolfhard’s Richie Tozier, Jack Dylan Grazer’s Eddie Kaspbrak, Wyatt Oleff’s Stan Uris, and Jeremy Ray Taylor’s Ben Hanscom) standing at the edge of a cliff, looking over into a lake. They’re peering out into the water, standing in nothing but their underwear, and wondering out loud who was going to go first.

A voice from behind them make them jump, as Beverly (played by Sophia Lillis) begins to disrobe to her underwear. “I’ll go,” she states to the speechless group. Before any of the boys can utter a word, Beverly runs forward, and leaps from the edge in to the emerald water down below. “Holy s–t,” Richie snaps. “We just got showed up by a girl!”

The kids instantly react, leaping into the water, and enjoying the summer day. After the fun, the crew dries off near the rocks. While the boys’ hormones get the better of them, Ben snaps out of it, and pulls a history project that he has been working on. One of the kids asks why it’s all about murder and missing children, to which Ben replies, “Derry’s not like any town I’ve ever been in before. They did a study once, and it turns out people die or disappear here at six times the national average.”

Clip #2

In the second clip, we see the horror of Henry Bowers (Nicholas Hamilton) and his gang as they are beating up on Chosen Jacob’s Mike Hanlon. Mike, as one of the only black people in the small town, is getting kicked around by a small riverbed.

In a moment, however, we get our first full glimpse of the dreaded Pennywise the clown, portrayed by Bill Skarsgård, who is waving creepily at Mike. Unsure of what he should be paying attention to, Mike turns for a brief second, and when he turns back, Pennywise is still waving, but not with his arm; he’s waving a dismembered child’s arm, still bloody at the nub. The scene is jarring and creepy all at once, and it’s over as quick as it comes.

As Bowers is about to finally drop a huge rock on Mike’s head, he is suddenly struck in the head by one. We see Bill and his friends come to Mike’s rescue, as an all out rock war breaks out, ultimately chasing away the rest of Bowers’s gang, leaving only him in a beaten and defeated mess on the riverbed bank.

As the group leaves, Mike asks if they’ve been bullied by Bowers as well, to which Bill replies, “I guess that’s one th-th-th-thing we all have in common. Welcome to the Losers Club.”

New Trailer

We were then treated to an advanced preview of the movie’s next- and best so far- trailer, as we hear Bill narrate while we pan over Derry: “When you’re a kid, you think the universe revolves around you. That you’ll always be protected and cared for. Then, one day, you realize that’s not true.”

A sea of red balloons flood each of the scenes, as well as a more detailed clip of Georgie being pulled down the storm drain by Pennywise. We are treated to the eerie scene of hearing Georgie appear in the basement of the Denbrough house, lurking in the family basement. The entity takes Georgie’s voice and cheerfully says, “If you come with me, you’ll float too.”

Georgie’s words echo thousands of times throughout the trailer, as it culminates to a scene that will honestly give people heart attacks. We find Richie in a shadowy room full of clown dolls. As Richie walks past the dolls, their heads begin to turn, but in the middle stands a particularly creepy looking doll. As the clown lifts his head, we quickly recognize it as Pennywise, as he bares his set of razor-sharp teeth. In a sudden flash, he Lunges at Richie at the crescendo of the trailer, just as the screen goes to black.

The new trailer is set to release in a week!

It, directed by Andy Muschietti, will threaten moviegoers in theaters September 8, 2017.
