Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk (Warner Bros. Pictures) opened in first place this weekend with an estimated $50.5 million from 3,720 theaters in North America, an average of $13,575 per location. The film also grossed $55.4 million on 10,775 screens in 46 overseas markets, for a debut of $105.9 million worldwide. It opened #1 in all major markets, including the UK, France, Russia, Spain, Korea and Australia. The UK let the way with $12.4 million, followed by Korea ($10.3 million), France ($4.9 million), and Australia ($4.7 million). Receiving an A- CinemaScore from audiences, the $150 million-budgeted film stars Fionn Whitehead, Tom Glynn-Carney, Jack Lowden, Harry Styles, Aneurin Barnard, James D’Arcy, Barry Keoghan, Kenneth Branagh, Cillian Murphy, Mark Rylance, and Tom Hardy.

Universal’s Girls Trip placed second at the domestic box office this weekend with an estimated $30.4 million and impressive A+ CinemaScore. Directed by Malcolm Lee on a budget of just $19 million, the comedy played in 2,591 theaters and averaged $11,722 per location. Girls Trip stars Regina Hall, Tiffany Haddish, Jada Pinkett Smith and Queen Latifah. bringing their all to the streets of New Orleans proved to be the comic relief audiences were looking for this year.

Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man: Homecoming dropped a spot to third this weekend, adding $22 million domestically for a total of $251.7 million after three weeks. Internationally, Spider-Man: Homecoming earned $33.2 million from 14,500 screens in 65 markets to push its overseas total to $320 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $571.7 million and has yet to open in Spain, Japan, and China. Directed by Jon Watts, Spider-Man: Homecoming stars Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Zendaya Coleman, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, Marisa Tomei, and Robert Downey Jr. The film was made for about $175 million.

20th Century Fox’s War for the Planet of the Apes dropped three spots to fourth and 64% in ticket sales with $20.4 million. The Matt Reeves-directed sequel has earned $97.8 million after two weeks. Made for about $150 million, War for the Planet of the Apes stars Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Steve Zahn, Amiah Miller, Karin Konoval, Judy Greer and Terry Notary.

Rounding out the top five was Luc Besson’s Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, starring Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne. The film took in just $17 million from 3,553 theaters, an average of $4,790 per location. Made for $150 million, the film is distributed domestically by STXfilms on behalf of EuropaCorp.

Dropping three spots to sixth, Universal Pictures and Illumination’s Despicable Me 3 grossed $12.7 million its fourth weekend and has earned $213.3 million in North America. Internationally, the third installment has grossed $514.1 million and its worldwide total is now at $727.4 million. Despicable Me 3 was directed by Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda, and co-directed by Eric Guillon. The $80 million film features the voices of Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, Trey Parker, Miranda Cosgrove, Dana Gaier, Nev Scharrel, Steve Coogan, Jenny Slate, and Julie Andrews.

Also of note, Warner Bros. Pictures’ Wonder Woman added $4.6 million this weekend domestically to push its total to $389 million. That means that Wonder Woman is now the top summer 2017 movie in North America, having surpassed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2‘s $387.3 million. For the year, Wonder Woman is second behind Beauty and the Beast‘s $504 million. Worldwide, Wonder Woman is now at $779.4 million and trails Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2‘s $860 million. Made for $149 million, the Patty Jenkins-directed Wonder Woman stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, Ewen Bremner, Saïd Taghmaoui, Elena Anaya, Connie Nielsen and Lucy Davis.
