Avengers: Infinity War: Thanos D23 Poster

The audience at the live-action panel at D23 was not ready. During the presentation, Marvel Studios god head honcho, Kevin Feige, came on stage and brought the proverbial house down. To kick things off, he brought on stage Josh Brolin. Next, he brought Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, and Dave Bautista to the stage. “I think these guys should be enough to take you on,” Feige tells Brolin. “These guys ain’t sh*t,” Brolin replied.

So after those kind words, Feige brought to the stage Don Cheadle, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Holland, Chadwick Boseman, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, and Robert Downey Jr. Now, it’s main event time.

The footage begins with the Guardians of the Galaxy flying in their newly rebuilt Milano. Mantis tells the group that they are arriving. “Alright Guardians, don’t forget to stop a dangerous ex-con, let’s put on our mean faces,” Star-Lord said. The location they find themselves in is filled with debris. It looks like something massive that was there, isn’t there anymore. “What happened?” Mantis asks. As they’re flying through the debris a body hits the windshield of the ship and gets stuck there. “Get it off!” Rocket yells. As we see a close-up of the face, we realize that the person on the windshield is Thor.

The Guardians decide to bring the body onto the ship. “Wake him up,” Star-Lord tells Mantis. Mantis uses her power to wake up Thor. A rattled Thor wakes up and is ready to fight. He sees the Guardians and realizes that they’re not the enemy. “Who the hell are you guys?” Thor asks.

Next, we see a montage of some of our heroes in action. During this montage, we see Scarlet Witch fighting a member of the Black Order. During the montage, we see Thor saying “something’s very wrong.” A female voiceover says, “death follows him like a shadow.” Loki emerges giving the Tesseract to someone really bigger than him. It could be Thanos but it could also be Black Dwarf, the largest member of the Black Order.

It is also during this montage that we see Spider-Man’s spider sense in action. Peter Parker is riding a school bus when the hairs on his arm stand up. Peter is shocked by what he sees, so he looks out of the school bus and into the sky. A giant ship is flying towards Earth.

“We have one advantage,” Iron Man says. “He’s coming to us.” The ship crashes in a warm looking desert planet and our heroes are in total shock.

“Fun really isn’t something one considers when balancing the universe,” a male voiceover says. Gamora looks like she’s seen a ghost. “But this… Does put a smile on my face,” the voice continues. Star-Lord is in shock as he says, “oh no.” Out from the black hole comes the Mad Titan himself, Thanos.

Now, this is where the real fun begins as our heroes begin to fight Thanos. Doctor Strange is using his powers to create platforms for Star-Lord to jump on. As he’s jumping on these platforms he is shooting at Thanos. We see Spider-Man in the Iron Spider suit that was shown at the end of Homecoming. We see more scenes of Scarlet Witch and Vision fighting the Black Order. In one of the scenes, Vision is behind a gate and looking scared.

Then we get a montage of other members of the Avengers. Black Panther is looking up in the sky alongside his Wakandan army and the Winter Soldier. Captain America comes out of the shadows with long shoulder length hair and a beard. Black Widow now has blonde hair. Iron Man is in his Bleeding Edge armor fighting alongside the Hulkbuster armor. Falcon uses his wings to block an attack by someone and kicks them in mid-air. We also see Doctor Strange, Tony Stark, Bruce Banner, and Wong inside the Sanctum Sanctorum.

Finally, we see exactly why Thanos is one of the worst villains in the entire Marvel universe. Peter Parker is on the ground and hurt badly. “I’m sorry Tony,” he says behind tears. Thanos grabs Thor’s head with one hand and squeezes. Thanos then punches Iron Man and goes flying towards a small hill.

Here is where everyone went absolutely wild.

Thanos, with the Infinity Gauntlet in his hand, summons the Power and Reality stones and destroys a moon. He uses the massive debris from the moon and hurtles it towards our heroes. Cut to title cards.

OH. MY. GOD. You guys are not ready for what is to come, I can guarantee you that.

Let the hype train begin.

Avengers: Infinity War destroys theaters on May 4, 2018.
