Alicia Vikander talks Tomb Raider reboot’s extensive stunts
Fresh off of winning an Academy Award for her role in The Danish Girl, actress Alicia Vikander is bringing the world of the iconic video game Tomb Raider to life. Speaking with EW, who have revealed a new photo from the film, Vikander opened up about the character in the film, which takes its cue from the 2013 reboot and features an inexperienced Lara.
“She has all the fierce, tough, curious, intelligent traits, but we’ve stripped away all of her experience. She hasn’t gone on an adventure just yet. She thought he was a stuck up businessperson living in the modern youth culture of suburban London, but then this whole box of information. This is the beginning.”
She also spoke about the extensive stunt work in the film, saying:
“Just like in The Wave, we have a lot of water sequences, I spent my last two days of shooting in a tank and that was my 16th total day being fully drenched or submerged in the water…For one action scene, we used the London venue for Olympic rafting. They threw me down that river — with my hands tied — about 50 times. I didn’t need to act, just react!”
That scene certainly sounds like the river moment from the game will be coming to life, check it out in the player below.
Scripted by Transformers: The Last Knight scribe Geneva Robertson-Dworet, the new Tomb Raider movie is directed by Norwegian helmer Roar Uthaug and also stars Dominic West, Walton Goggins, and Daniel Wu. The movie hits theaters March 16, 2018.
