Review: Solo’s Everyday Max backpack perfect for your convention needs

Convention season is coming up – E3, Anime Expo, D23, San Diego Comic-Con, and the Star Trek convention – and those in the social media and news world are going to need to be prepared.

As a reporter for Nerd Reactor, I was given the Solo Everyday Max Backpack to test out for my convention needs. I am constantly on the go from one meeting to another with little to no breaks in between. That said, I tested the backpack during one of my many events of interviews.

 Design

The backpack design comes in navy blue, gray, and yellow with multiple pockets allowing for different points of entry. The fabric is polyester and can stand the daily wear and tear of travel. The bag measures at 21″ x 13″ x 8″, allowing a laptop up to 17.3 inches to fit in the padded tech compartment for protection. The front compartment, which does not have any sleeves or restriction, is the largest, capable of putting clothes, books, or food.

The two side compartments allow for water bottles, pens, or things you may just want to stuff on the side for easy access. Inside of the backpack also contains five additional zippered pockets, lined with plastic, for business cards or extra batteries and cords.

This backpack also includes a compartment on the bottom, which is lined with plastic to keep it away from everything else. This is meant to keep shoes or dirty clothes. For myself, I kept my walking shoes in there. After each meeting, I change from my business shoes to my walking shoes to head to the next event.

The back of the bag and straps are padded for your comfort. With two padded shoulder straps with a middle clasp to tighten across my chest, it felt secure for the strenuous walks from one side of the convention center to the other. The bag also offers three different handles – one on the top and one on each side – for easy grabbing.

Usage

Here is what I carry during convention season:

  • 13″ laptop
  • Mini-tablet with detachable keyboard
  • Two external battery packs
  • Two headphones
  • Recorder
  • Professional camera
  • Camera charger
  • USB
  • Phone charger
  • Extra batteries
  • Power strip
  • Wallet
  • Notepad and pens
  • Business cards
  • Water bottles
  • Snacks
  • Sunglasses
  • Toiletries – eye drops, medicine, tissue, SPF
  • Sweater
  • Walking shoes
  • Sonic Screwdrivers (depending on which convention)

I had to fit all of it into one backpack and it did fit. I do not recommend doing this unless you truly are out the whole day. It weighs a ton, but I’ve gotten used to it over the years. But, again, it depends on which convention.

The backpack was also made to feel like a duffel bag. I noticed it was great for traveling for a weekend getaway, where it would require me to pack lightly.

It all fit.

Some issues

The Solo Everyday Max is great if you do not carry too many items. After stuffing the backpack, you should consider the difficulty of taking out some of the items. Switching my shoes between each meeting became quite difficult as the bag was completely stuffed. This could be fixed if you removed several items first, but it would take some time. The shoe compartment isn’t the easiest to place things.

Overall

The Solo Every Day Max backpack is great for everyday use. Whether you’re going to the office every day or a weekend getaway or a convention, it fits everything you need.

The Solo Everyday Max goes for $79.99 but is currently on sale for $67.99 on their official site. It is available on Amazon for $59.09. For the Solo Rival Backpack review, click here.
