Project Scorpio price and name revealed ahead of Microsoft’s E3 2017 Press Conference

Revealed (kind of, but not really) at last year’s E3, Project Scorpio was the codename for Microsft’s next game console that they’re describing as an upgrade to the current Xbox One. Which is going to be officially called the Xbox Scorpio, due to a Best Buy Canada newsletter gaffe. It’s similar to how the PS4 Pro is an upgrade to the PS4, sporting 4K capabilities and enhanced graphical features for certain games.

Microsoft’s E3 Press Conference begins at 2 PM PST later today, but it looks like gaming journalist and host of many gaming events Geoff Keighley, took to Twitter to announce the price of the Scorpio ahead of time. The price being $499 American.

Over the past year, the Scorpio has been described as more than just a mere upgrade like the PS4 Pro is to the PS4. It’s been designed with developers in mind to give the ultimate gaming experience, with 6 teraflops of performance as opposed to the current Xbox One’s 1.31 teraflops and PS4 Pro’s 4.12. It seems like the Scorpio is going to act more like a brand new console more than an upgrade, able to run games at 4K resolution and 60fps.

Later today, we will finally get the information we desire about the Scorpio such as the final name, release date, and most importantly, games. After all, what good is a powerful system if you don’t have the games to back it up? We know that Sea of ThievesCrackdown 3, and State of Decay 2 are coming to Xbox One, but will they come to Scorpio with enhanced versions? Here’s hoping that Microsoft delivers on that front!

To find out more, tune in to Microsoft’s Conference at 2 PM PST on various streaming sites such as YouTube and Twitch.
