Chris Evans explains his contract extension with Marvel

Comic book movies are bigger than ever right now, especially those in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But what will happen once the actors who play our favorite superheroes call it quits? Will they get an actor to play the same role? Will they keep the superhero but change the character who dons the uniform? Studios will have to think about these problems soon. Robert Downey Jr, for example, has played Iron Man for almost 10 years, if you can believe, and he may be getting tired of it or simply too old. Chris Evans has already given the impression that he wants to move on from Captain America.

This is a sad thought considering how close we’ve grown these characters over the years. However, Evans decided to extend his contract and remain in the MCU a little longer to star in the sequel to Avengers: Infinity War. In a recent interview with The Telegraph, he explained his decision.

“I had six films in my Marvel contract, so I could have said after the third Avengers I was done, but they wanted to make the third and fourth Avengers films as a two-parter,” Evans said. “They said they had so many other characters to fit in – Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man – and couldn’t get them all into one movie.” He elaborated by saying he made the decision “because it made sense. It’s going to wrap everything up.”

One may assume he had a negative experience making these films considering his desire to move on. But according to the actor, that’s not the case at all.

“I’ve been on sets where you get a vibe that everyone’s making a different movie,” Evans said. “The director one, the actors another, the producers another one still. Marvel has a way of ensuring that on the day filming begins, everyone is making the same meal.”

However Chris Evans feels about his experience, there are millions of fans who love what he’s done and will miss him when he’s gone. They’ll see him again as Cap in Avengers: Infinity War when it premieres on May 4, 2018.
