Sonic Forces will allow you to create your own characters

Sonic Forces
Sonic Forces is quickly approaching its release. Today we get to finally see the unveiling of one of the new additions to the game. (Sega has shown the demo behind closed doors to members of the press.) The character’s play style is very similar to modern Sonic but at a slower pace, and they will have their own unique level elements. In the trailer below, you will get to see the create a character feature in action.

You will be able to create your own character based on 7 animal types: a wolf, rabbit, cat, dog, bear, bird, and of course hedgehog. Each animal comes with its own unique bonuses:

  • Wolves: Automatically draw in rings when nearby
  • Rabbits: Have longer invulnerability times after receiving damage.
  • Cats: Keep one ring after being hit
  • Dogs: Restarts with five rings after being hit
  • Bears: Blow enemies away with a homing attack
  • Birds: Fly high with double jump abilities
  • Hedgehogs: Collects rings when getting damaged

Wispons, the New Gadget

Your created hero will utilize new gadgets called wispons which will vary from grappling hooks to flamethrowers and much more. The wispons essentially are a more powerful version of the powers from Sonic Colors. As players progress they will be able to upgrade and customize their created heroes from hundreds of accessories and outfit options.

From our short hands-off demo time, we saw just a few of the ways the new wispon gadgets will help the player. While many are used offensively, others are also used for extra tricky traversal portions of the game. The created characters will actually be integral to the main storyline and will be seen in cutscenes and other key parts of the story. They will play a crucial role in helping Sonic take down Eggman and his empire.

Sonic Forces will be available for Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC this holiday.
