ABC Television Network‘s hit series Scandal will be coming to an end next year. TV Line has the news, reporting that Scandal season seven will be the show’s last. Scandal, which airs Thursday nights, hails from Shonda Rhimes, creator and executive producer on Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice. Starring Kerry Washington, the drama revolves around the life and work of a professional crisis manager and her dysfunctional staff. According to the outlet, the decision to conclude the series with season seven is a creative choice on the part of Rhimes and official confirmation is expected to arrive shortly.

On Scandal, everyone has secrets… and Olivia Pope (Washington) has dedicated her life to protecting and defending the public images of the nation’s elite by keeping those secrets under wraps. Pope’s team are at the top of their game when it comes to getting the job done for their clients, but it becomes apparent that these “gladiators in suits,” who specialize in fixing the lives of other people, have trouble fixing those closest at hand — their own.

Shonda Rhimes, Betsy Beers (Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice) and Mark Wilding serve as executive producers on Scandal. Judy Smith is co-executive producer.

Scandal season seven was officially announced earlier this year when the show premiered with its biggest audience in over 14 months and its best young adult number since its midseason return the previous February – since 11/19/15 and 2/11/16, respectively. Since its season opener, Scandal has been averaging 5.7 million total viewers.
