Destiny 2 will drop Grimoire Cards in favor of in-game storytelling

Ever since its initial release, Destiny as been a fairly flawed game. It’s a game I both love and love to hate. One of the biggest gripes with players (myself included) was the immense lack of story the game presented. Granted, there was a decent amount to do, but for some reason Bungie decided to put most of its story in Grimoire Cards. Now these cards were only accessible through either the Destiny app or on Bungie’s website, and they fleshed out a huge portion of what we see in the game. It was beyond annoying knowing that in order for me to understand what was going on in the game, I had to really sift through these cards to get a better handle on everything.

Thankfully with Destiny 2, things will change. In a recent interview with Bungie’s World Lead Steve Cotton, he responded to a question regarding if the Grimoire Cards would in fact be returning. Here’s what he had to say:

“The answer to that question is ‘no’ and the reason it’s no is because we want to put the lore in the game. We want people to be able to find the lore. All the story is told through the Adventures, it’s told through the characters you encounter in the world, it’s told through the campaign, and it’s told through scannables you find throughout the world.”

This comes as a huge sigh of relief, because it gives a better opportunity for players to immerse themselves into the game, rather than trying to get the story in a disjointed way. Since The Taken King and Rise of Iron expansions were released for Destiny, it really seems like Bungie is delivering on what was promised so long ago. Slowly but surely, they’ve been correcting mistakes that players have harped on for some time now. This leaves the question, have Bungie learned enough from their mistakes with Destiny in order to give fans something more complete with Destiny 2?

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Judging by that first gameplay trailer though, it looks like they’re on the right path. Check it out below. Are you excited for Destiny 2? Let us know in the comments below.

Destiny 2 will be available on September 8 for Xbox One, Playstation 4 and PC.
