D23 Expo will be returning to the Anaheim Convention Center this July. Disney, musical and animated film fans will get the chance to listen to Alan Menken perform live. The talented musician is known for composing popular Disney animated films like Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Tangled, and more. He will have two performances during D23 Expo 2017 in Hall D23 on Sunday, July 16th, at 1:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Alan Menken’s one-man show is written and performed by Menken. Richard Kraft will be directing the show. He’s the creative director of Disney’s The Little Mermaid in Concert at The Hollywood Bowl and the upcoming La La Land in Concert: A Live-to-Film Celebration at the Hollywood Bowl.
Menken has an impressive list of accomplishments including being a living person who won the most Academy Awards, receiving 11 Grammy Awards, 7 Golden Globes, a Tony Award, and 19 Academy Award nominations. He has also composed the music for Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Enchanted.
And with that, I’ll leave you with a few of my favorite songs. They include “Colors of the Wind” from Pocahontas and “A Whole New World” from Aladdin.
Lea Salonga (Jasmine’s singing voice) and Brad Kane (Aladdin’s singing voice) reunited with Menken in 2015. They did a performance of “A Whole New World” on Good Morning America. It’s was a great moment, and it was nice to see the trio perform again after 23 years from the film’s release.
Of course, I can’t share the above without sharing the popular cover by Nick Pitera. Yes, he was able to capture both Aladdin and Jasmine.
