Paramount has dropped Triple Frontier, and Channing Tatum, Tom Hardy are out

Paramount has just dropped the upcoming film Triple Frontier, according to Deadline. Stars Channing Tatum and Tom Hardy are also out of the picture. Triple Frontier was supposed to begin production this month. The film has been trying to get off the ground for almost a decade. J.C. Chandor, the Oscar-nominated writer and director behind Margin Call, All Is Lost and A Most Violent Year, is directing, though the site says that Tatum and Hardy weren’t happy with the latest version of the script. The film was reportedly on a tight schedule, leading Paramount to back out, with the stars not quite on board.

At one time eyed to be director Kathryn Bigelow’s follow-up to her Academy Award-winning The Hurt LockerTriple Frontier was written by that film’s Mark Boal. The story is set in the notorious border zone between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil where the Igazu and Parana rivers converge – making “la triple frontera” difficult to monitor and a haven for organized crime. The film was also set to star Moonlight‘s Mahershala Ali.

Among those attached to Triple Frontier over the years are stars like Johnny Depp, Tom Hanks and Will Smith. Tatum is known for his work on 21 Jump StreetMagic MikeHail, Caesar!, and as the voice of Superman in The LEGO Movie. Hardy is known for Mad Max: Fury RoadInceptionThe Dark Knight Rises and the TV series Taboo.
