As soon as Disney secured the rights to the Star Wars franchise, they made sure that new movies would come out immediately and frequently. We’ve already seen the release of The Force Awakens and the first of several planned anthology films, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Additionally, we’ll be seeing the release of the next two films in the main series plus a Han Solo–solo–film. With the seemingly endless amount of characters in the Star Wars universe, Disney could milk this for decades to come. Of course, a movie about Obi-Wan Kenobi would seem like it would be at the top of that list. But would we see Ewan McGregor reprise his role if such a movie was made?

Business Insider interviewed the actor about another role he revisited recently, that of Renton in T2 Trainspotting, the sequel to the 1996 film Trainspotting. Naturally, during the interview he was also asked about returning to the Star Wars universe for a new film.

“Listen, I have been asked about it a lot, to the point where it looks a bit like I’m sort of touting for work,” said McGregor. “I’ve been very open to say I’d be happy to do it if they want to do it.” However, he added that he hopes if they ever do call that he’s not “older than Alec Guinness was” when he played the character in Star Wars: A New Hope.

If the filmmakers want to make the film based on Obi-Wan’s time on Tatooine before A New Hope, they can look to the comic book Star Wars #7 from Marvel which shows Luke Skywalker finding Obi-Wan’s journals that provide a glimpse of his life on the planet when he was hiding from the Empire.

While you’re waiting for the Obi-Wan project, you can check out a little film called Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which comes out on December 15 of this year, or Han Solo: A Star Wars Story, which premieres on May 25, 2018. McGregor can be seen in the Trainspotting sequel in select theaters.
