ANiUTa, the new music streaming service for anime fans

Spotify has made life convenient for me and millions of music lovers all around the world, but the one area it’s lacking in is Japanese music. Why is that? That’s because the Japanese music labels have plans of their own with a new paid subscription service. Introducing ANiUTa, a collaboration between several Japanese record companies. This new music streaming service specializes in anime music and has launched in Japan today. Don’t worry if you’re not living in Japan since it will be launching in other countries within a year.

Anime and anime music concerts have become popular outside of Japan, and the service will help to connect to a new market. The music lineup will include music from anime, games, superhero productions and vocaloid. Does this finally mean I can finally listen to some music from Yoko Kanno? Or maybe music from Asian Kung-Fu Generation or Maximum the Hormone?

Here’s what we know so far. It will include music from anime series like Ensemble Stars!, the Gundam franchise, Wake Up, Girls!, Mr. Osomatsu, Girls und Panzer, KanColle, Kirakira ☆ Precure a la Mode, K-ON!, Attack on Titan, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Genesis of Aquarion, Free! – Iwatobi Swim Club, Macross Delta, Macross Frontier, Yowamushi Pedal, Lucky Star, Love Live!, Love Live! Sunshine!!, Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-, and Yuri!!! on Ice.

The service will cost 600 yen (around US$5.40) a month.

The companies behind the service include Lantis, Flying Dog, Avex Pictures, Kadokawa, Sunrise Music Publishing, Toei Animation Music Publishing, TOHO, Frontier Works, Pony Canyon, and Marvelous. Participating companies include Earth Star Records, EXIT TUNES, SNK, NBCUniversal Entertainment Japan, CAPCOM, Karent, Smiral, TEAM Entertainment, Tokuma Japan Communications, Dreamusic, Falcom, TMS Music, VAP, Victor Entertainment, 1st Place, Bushiroad Music, United Music and Arts, Mages, Rejet and Warner Brothers.

Paid subscribers will get exclusives like pre-release streaming during anime airing season. There’s also an exclusive concert ticket application and exclusive merchandise online shopping within the service.

The service is available in Japan on Android and iOS devices. It will be available worldwide by the end of 2017.
