The 4D experience has been around for a while thanks to experiences like Captain EO at Disneyland and A Bug’s Life at Disney’s California Adventure. For those who want the 4D experiences in movie theaters, they can currently check them out via 4DX auditoriums. These auditoriums will immerse the movie-going audiences with films like Beauty and the Beast, Ghost in the Shell, Kong: Skull Island and many more.
4DX is able to immerse audiences using motion chairs and environmental effects such as water, wind, and lights. I was able to check out a demo during CinemaCon 2017 in Las Vegas, and it was a wild and crazy ride. We were shown action-packed trailers like Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Transformers: The Last Knight, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
Immerse Yourself
For the new Pirates of the Caribbean trailer, 4DX was able to make you feel like you’re sailing with Captain Jack Sparrow. The wind blows against your face as the water sprays around you. (Don’t worry, you won’t get drenched.) The seat moves in sync with the action on screen. I can feel the rumble of giant Autobots and robots fighting each other. I can also feel weightlessness as the Guardians of the Galaxy team flies in outer space.
There are many 4DX auditoriums around the world, and the United States currently have 5 locations supporting. Locations include Regal Cinemas at L.A. LIVE, CGV Cinemas in Buena Park (CA), Regal Cinemas E-Walk Stadium in New York, Regal Union Square Stadium 14 in New York, and Marcus Gurnee Mills Cinema in Gurnee, IL.
CGV Cinemas in Buena Park currently has Ghost in the Shell with 4DX.
Check out the trailer below to get an idea of how you’ll feel inside the 4DX auditoriums. It’s an intense sensation that will definitely bring you closer to the big screen.
