One of the most entertaining videos on the popular React Channel on YouTube is the second playthrough of I Am Bread, the frustrating game from Bossa Studios. In the video, a euphoric Tori exclaims, “I AM TOAST! I AM TOAST!” while her fellow teens fell short of the goal and vented in front of the camera their frustrations with the controls.
Needless to say, the goal of I Am Bread is to become toast, although it is not as simple as it sounds.
For gamers hoping to experience becoming toast for themselves, the game has not been difficult to find with availability on Steam, iOS, Android and PS4. Now, it is available for download on Xbox One as well.
On the Microsoft Store, the game’s official description is quite exciting as shown below:
“Embark on an epic journey to become toast! Take on all hazards to deliciousness as you embark on your adventure throughout the home of Bob. the unsuspecting owner: from the kitchen, through the house, to the lounge, and then venture outside into the garden and beyond.”
Wait, there is more.
The game offers additional gameplay options:
“Additional game modes and other types of bread will cater for all tastes! Set speed records racing across the levels as a bagel; realise your destiny as crispbread in cheese hunt mode; relieve your stress as the baguette and smash everything in sight in rampage mode. Oh, and did we mention bread goes into space too?”
The last part refers to the included Starch Wars, “a standalone, fully-fledged space shooter that takes Bread into the depths of the cosmos and tasks players with blasting the nefarious Rye Fighters” according to the Xbox blog.
Oh, and the blog also reveals the clunky controls were done on purpose:
“I Am Bread’s origins were formed during a game jam at Bossa Studios, where the team had just 48 hours to rapidly build and present a brand-new game prototype with the theme of clumsimulator (clumsy simulation). The initial idea showed how fun and awkward it would be to control a slice of bread while flopping it around a kitchen sink.”
Certain gamers will welcome such a challenge.
The game’s price is listed as $12.99.
