Jeff Bridges explains difficulties he faced while filming Iron Man

The original Iron Man is widely considered one of the best comic book movies ever made. It also paved the way for The Avengers and this little thing in movies we like to call the Marvel Cinematic Universe. You’d think making the film would be a wonderful experience, but that wasn’t the case for everyone. Apparently, Oscar winner Jeff Bridges had some trouble on the set.

Bridges chatted with Matthew McConaughey during the fifth season of Variety and PBS’ Actors on Actors and explained some of the  challenges he faced while making the blockbuster film and how they made it more difficult to get ready.

“I like to be prepared,” Bridges said. “I like to know my lines.” He continued speaking about how the script was constantly being changed or altered and added, “It turned out that many times — 10, 12, 15 times — we would show up for the days work, not knowing what we were gonna shoot. All the guys in the studio are sitting there tapping their foot, looking at their watch, and we’re sitting in my trailer trying to figure out my lines.”

It wasn’t all bad, though. Bridges actually considered it a learning experience.

“I made a little adjustment in my head,” Bridges explained. “That adjustment was – Jeff, just relax, you are in a $200 million student film, have fun, just relax.”

Bridges’ frustration is understandable. The Oscar-winner, who’s also been nominated six times, is considered one of today’s acting greats and has made several fantastic films including The Big Lebowski, Crazy Heart and this year’s Hell or High Water. When you’re used to a process that’s helped you produce such an impressive resume, you may become agitated when you sense a lack of professionalism. And, let’s not forget, this was the first film in the MCU. Few could have predicted how huge it would become and Iron Man could have very well failed miserably. There was a lot of uncertainty to fuel the frustration.
