It’s no secret that the NES Classic is taking the world by storm. Coming in at only $59.99 in the US, it is a miniature version of the Nintendo Entertainment System with 30 of its best games installed. It’s just a damn shame nobody can find one in stores. With this success, it seems likely Nintendo will release a Super NES Classic in the future. Today, we have more evidence supporting this hypothesis.
Two days ago, they filed a new trademark for an image of the Super Famicom controller.

For those who don’t know, the Super Famicom was Japan’s version of the Super NES, but the Famciom controller had different colored buttons compared to the SNES’s. The trademarked image in question is missing features from the original design, such as the labeling of the buttons.
Only time will tell if or when Nintendo releases the Super NES Classic, but a move like this definitely hints at plans moving forward. They also recently filed a trademark for the GameCube game Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem. Along with the rumor of the Nintendo Switch supporting GameCube games on Virtual Console, this is exciting news!
