Felicity Jones receives Jedi advice

By Reinier Macatangay

For Felicity Jones, it has been a busy month. With the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story earlier in December, the 33-year-old actress made her rounds on late-night talk shows to promote the new movie. Jones is also part of another recent film release though, the fantasy drama A Monster Calls which came out on Dec. 23.

Coincidentally, A Monster Calls features Liam Neeson, another fellow Star Wars actor who portrayed Qui-Gon Jinn in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Jones played the younger Jyn Erso in Rogue One.

According to an article on UPI, the two actors did not discuss their Star Wars experiences yet. If Neeson were to give advice to Jones on Star Wars-mania though, he would tell her to keep an element of “mystery.”

“I would have said to her, if she was here now, I’d say, all this junket stuff you have to do,” he laughed. “That’s what we have to do. And it’s fine, it’s great. … Because you want people to see your movie. But, just try and keep a bit of mystery. It’s like I’m so sick of seeing, reading about actors or actresses and stuff, you’re saying, ‘Oh, I wish I hadn’t read that.’ Just keep a bit of mystery. And I think audiences do [think that,] too. Deep, deep down, they don’t want to know all the answers, what you had for breakfast and all the rest of it.”

Excellent advice from a former Jedi master.

Neeson went on to continue a successful career after Star Wars, appearing in multiple Batman movies among other projects, and lending his voice to another huge film franchise in The Chronicles of Narnia.

Additionally, he gave his voice to Star Wars: The Clone Wars and reprised the role of Qui-Gon Jinn.

Jones, an established actress herself, appeared in The Theory of Everything and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in recent years. Her starring role of Jyn Erso in a Star Wars film is the most high-profile role she has landed.

Does she keep going up from this point?

There is an interesting quotation on IMDb attributed to Jones:

“The more famous you get, in some ways it makes acting more difficult because you’re more known as yourself. There’s more of a narrative about you rather than about the character.”

As the old Jedi said, she will just have to keep parts of herself a mystery.
