It’s been 10 years since Code Geass first aired, and to celebrate the series 10th anniversary, Sunrise revealed that two Code Geass projects are in development.
The first project is a new season of the anime which will be titled Code Geass: Fukkatsu no Lelouch (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Resurrection). The only information that was revealed is that story will take place a few years after the events of Lelouch’s “Zero Requiem” from Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2, and that we will see the return of Lelouch Lamperouge. It was confirmed that this isn’t a clone or some alternate dimension Lelouch, but the real deal. That means that he somehow survived being stabbed by Suzaku. So if you truly believed he lived at the end of the series, you’ve been right for eight years.
The second project revealed is a three-part film series that will recap all 50 episodes of both Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion and Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2. It was revealed that the cast was re-recording their lines from the series for the film and that new scenes will be added to the movies.
It’s a huge surprise to hear that Code Geass would be seeing a new series. Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion originally aired in Japan back in 2006, followed by Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 in 2008. The series was originally released by Bandai Entertainment on DVD. Earlier this year Funimation released the series on Blu-ray, and now we can look forward to a new season hopefully in 2017.
