New set photos of John Boyega in Pacific Rim 2: Maelstrom have been released on Twitter through the JohnBoyegaFr account.
In the set photos, you can see that he is injured and possibly running from a Kaiju or some kind of incident. His makeup is put on to show a cut near his left eye.
The first film featured Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, and Charlie Day. With Elba as Stacker Pentecost dying in the first film, it is expected that Boyega will be playing his son as they share the same last name. Joining him will be returning star Ron Perlman, and new addition Scott Eastwood.
The first was written and directed by Guillermo Del Toro, with co-writer Travis Beacham. Del Toro and Beacham are both now involved in the writing of Pacific Rim: Maelstrom, and Del Toro is also a producer. The sequel will be directed by Steven S. DeKnight, who was the showrunner for Netflix’s Daredevil and Spartacus.
