With the Nintendo Switch set to release early next year, it’s been rumored that Nintendo would be ending the production of the Wii U system shortly. While Nintendo has yet to release any official date when the system will no longer be made, in Japan it has confirmed that it will be ending the production of the 32GB system and Splatoon set very soon.
This would also mean that Western markets would be affected soon as well. Nintendo has officially commented on the matter revealing that it has already shipped Wii U consoles to various retail partners for the fiscal year. While it’s not revealed how many have systems have been released into the market, it looks like after this large shipment that’s it.
“As recently posted by Nintendo on the Wii U website in Japan, Wii U production will end in the near future for the Japanese domestic market. We have nothing to announce in terms of exact timing.
We can confirm that as of today, all Wii U hardware that will be made available in the North American market for this fiscal year has already been shipped to our retail partners. We encourage anyone who wants Wii U to communicate with their preferred retail outlet to monitor availability.”
