A few days ago, Hello Games released a statement on Steam regarding No Man’s Sky on a new upcoming update and touched a bit on the current controversy and its fan base. Well, before we were able to report the news on it, Foundation Update 1.1 has been released for No Man’s Sky with tons of goodies along with it. Hello Games has stated this update will be the foundation to future updates to come, and it appears to be a big one. The main standout being the ability to build a base camp. There are tons of details, so here’s a quick look at some of the highlights:
Game Modes
No Man’s Sky will now feature 3 new game modes for players to adventure in:
- Normal Mode – The standard gameplay mode
- Creative Mode – Allows players to explore with no limits
- Survival Mode – As the name states, makes the game more challenging for players
All the different game modes will use a different save file, which will allow you to play each one independently from each other. Creative mode looks like to push your imagination to whatever you want, seeing as you will have unlimited health and resources with no building costs. You can run wild and create whatever you want and do whatever you want. Survival looks to be devoted to the hardcore players with limited resources, more hazardous planets, and more aggressive enemies.
Base Building
Base Building in No Man’s Sky will allow you to create a base on a planet to farm resources, build weapons and equipment, and create save points anywhere on that planet as well. Here’s a breakdown of Base Building:
- Claim your home planet by finding an uninhabited base and creating your own, fully bespoke outpost.
- Construct your homestead for shelter, using modular structures and decorations, replicated from resources gathered while exploring
- Recruit alien lifeforms to help research new technology. Farming, engineer, weapons and science specialists are hirable from Space Stations
- Use Terminus Teleporters in Space Stations to teleport to and from your base at will
- Expand your base with storage containers to stockpile precious resources and rare products
- Find an even more beautiful location and you can simply dismantle your previous homestead to refund all of the spent resources
There are a lot more features including freights, new resources, new technology, and updated user interface. This looks like a good step for No Man’s Sky and shows that Hello Games is in it for the long run. But is this enough to bring its fan base? Their original Steam statement touched a bit on the controversy and had this to say:
The discussion around No Man’s Sky since release has been intense and dramatic. We have been quiet, but we are listening and focusing on improving the game that our team loves and feels so passionately about.
Positive or negative feedback, you have been heard and that will truly help to make this a better game for everyone.
