Infinity Ward’s latest Call of Duty title, Infinite Warfare, takes the series in a new direction by moving the action to space. The newest entry in the franchise is still in its first week of release, and in the UK, sits as the second best-selling title of 2016 with only this year’s Fifa 17 having outsold Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare so far.
This isn’t all good news for Infinity Ward however, as the game isn’t selling as much as expected when compared to last year’s Black Ops 3.
Now, the fact that Infinite Warfare’s release doesn’t include a PS3 or Xbox 360 release could well be a part of the issue, but at the time of writing this article, sales for Infinite Warfare are 48.8% below those for Black Ops 3 at this time.
This will no doubt pick up over the holiday period, and Infinite Warfare has been reviewing fairly well, with a Metacritic score of 80. But the game also has even more competition this year in the triple A FPS space (literally) with the war against Battlefield 1 now including the growing prevalence of Titanfall 2 – the also-set-in-space sequel having just been released.
