The Animus machines in the Assassin’s Creed games were very simple. The subject would lie on a modern bed or sit on a chair with the mechanism over the head for transporting the subject to their ancestor’s memory. With the new Assassin’s Creed movie coming out next month, the Animus gets an upgrade that reminds me of plugging into the Matrix. Fox has released a new clip that shows off the new Animus, and it’s looking very advanced.
Here’s an image of the needle inserted to the back of the neck from the new Animus. A large arm-like mechanism lifts the subject up to for total immersion.
Doesn’t that remind you of The Matrix? Well, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed franchise has some influence from The Matrix, especially with the subject gaining abilities thanks to technology.
Check out the screenshot of the Animus from the video games, and you can see how simple it looks. There’s a clear screen over the subject’s head. No needle is needed and it looks pretty comfortable and painless.
Assassin’s Creed follows Michael Fassbender as Callum Lynch, who revisits the memories of his ancestor, Aguilar, during 15th Century Spain. He finds out that he’s a descendant of Assassins, a secret group on a mission to stop the Templars.
The film is directed by Justin Kurzel (Macbeth) and also stars Marion Cotillard (The Dark Knight Rises) and Jeremy Irons (Batman v Superman).
Assassin’s Creed sneaks into theaters on December 21, 2016.
