Are live-action Disney films the next ‘superhero movie’? Recently, films like Cinderella, The Jungle Book and Maleficent have become huge hits and we’re about to see even more of these features coming out in the next few years such as live-action versions of Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King and Mulan. We can now add Snow White to that long list of films.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is being produced with The Girl on the Train screenwriter Erin Cressida Wilson in negotiations to write the script. Wilson’s other recent work includes writing Jason Reitman’s Men, Women & Children and producing HBO’s short-lived series Vinyl. Additionally, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who just wrote lyrics for La La Land, are attached to write new music for Snow White which will include brand new songs. Marc Platt of Mary Poppins Returns‘ is attached to produce.
There have been several adaptations of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale. The 1937 animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which was Disney’s first animated feature, is probably the most famous version and is considered possibly the most successful animated film of all time. More recently, the lighter movie Mirror Mirror and the darker adaptation Snow White and the Huntsman, both 2012 films, presented different takes on the story.
There’s no word yet on when the new film will be released.
