Will an Uncharted film ever be made? For years, there has been talk about a film based on the incredibly popular video game series. However, the project has encountered numerous obstacles and remains in development hell.
The latest setback is a big one. The film was scheduled to hit theaters on June 30, 2017, but it looks like that won’t happen as Sony Pictures has removed the film from its release calendar.
This news comes a little more than a month after Joe Carnahan (Narc, The Grey) came on board as a screenwriter for the project. Carnahan is part of a large group of screenwriters who’ve done work on this film; it’s surprising that the movie isn’t going forward when this group includes acclaimed writers like Oscar-winner Mark Boal (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty) and Oscar-nominee David O. Russell (The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook).
Mark Wahlberg was also attached to the film as the lead for quite some time. Many fans have been adamant that Nathan Fillion play Nathan Drake, but that seems increasingly unlikely considering the status of the film and the fact that Fillion, like Wahlberg, is now in his mid-40s.
