Still sleeping on the Samsung Note 7? That may have saved your life – or at least your pants – as more than 35 cases have been reported of the device catching on fire.
Samsung has officially halted shipments of the device in light of this clear defect in the Note 7. However, the South Korean tech company isn’t stopping there. They will also be replacing the devices that have already been sold, the ones in the retail stores, and the ones currently in transit. With an estimated 2.5 million already sold and 3 million already shipped, replacing the Note 7 devices will come at no small price tag for Samsung.
The timing could not have come at a worse time for the tech company as Apple gears up to announce its new iPhone later this month. While Apple has had its share of recalls and device debacles, it has not been at the scale that Samsung is currently facing. This could mean a push of Samsung users over to the side of Apple.
What do you think? Will the Note 7 catching fire steer people away from Samsung? Keep the conversation going in the comments below.
