WGN America’s Salem is coming back soon. We can feel the excitement. Salem just released a teaser poster of an empty chapel and asked fans in a old nursery rhyme: Where are the people?
Well, following this post, we finally got the finishing piece and it’s beautiful.
Mary Sibley (Janet Montgomery) is front and center holding the hand of the man who saved her, Sebastian (Joe Doyle), and the man she sacrificed herself to save, John Alden (Shane West). If this poster has any symbolism – maybe we could break it down.
Well, with Sebastian… it looks like dear old mother is still around. The skull could represent his beloved mother (Lucy Lawless) from last season who will always be with him. Motherly love, of course. As for Mary, we see her familiar, but we see several of them. What does this mean? Maybe she will be going through them to defeat the devil? Mary is holding both John and Sebastian’s hands, which could mean being torn between the two. But, who are we kidding… #TeamJohn. John has a serpent wrapped around him, which belongs to the devil. Could John be possibly possessed or turned this season?
It looks like The Sentinel (Samuel Roukin) is watching over Little John (Oliver Bell) and John Alden to protect them. Could the serpent represent him and what he must protect? As for Little John, he has a doll right next to his body. I don’t know what that could mean, but it must be important if it’s displayed.
It looks like Tituba has her sight back as well as a new familiar. Her eyes have now become a cat, which could mean the cat is her way of sight as well.
Mercy (Elise Eberle) is looking stylish and has turned away from them all. She seemed to be in her own world and with all the fancy stuff on her, she seems to be doing well.
Cotton (Seth Gabel) is placed at the top of the church watching everything happening. Since he is a man of the Lord, he could be trying to get back to heaven and stop the devil. He’s nowhere near his wife, Anne (Tazmin Merchant). So, it could symbolize their distance.
Poor Anne looks so lost, looking up towards her husband. She is below Little John, which shows us she’s under his reign of terror. She also has her familiar, Mr. Brown Jenkins.
Then, there is sweet Isaac (Iddo Goldberg) who is praying to the heavens. I can’t tell much from his posture other than him praying.
What do you think of the poster? What are your thoughts on it?
