Rosewill Thor V2 Gaming Case (review)

There’s no better feeling in the world than completing your very own computer build, from the countless hours you spend researching your hardware to screwing in the very last HDD screw. Knowing that you built something with your bare hands gives you that sense of enjoyment, that bravado. When it comes to building your very own computer, 90% of your accomplishment can’t even be admired. That’s why any PC gamer knows that the outside is just as important as the inside.

rosewill-case-3Enter the Rosewill Thor V2 gaming case. This thing is massive, and not to mention heavy. The case is built with SECC steel, giving it a little bit of durability. I’m not a gamer, in fact, my personal rig is meant mainly for video editing, but don’t let that discourage you, because this gaming case was perfect for my needs.

The Thor V2 gaming case is built with four fans… yes you read that right. FOUR FANS! It’s equipped with a Front Red LED 230mm fan. One Top 230mm fan, one side 230mm fan and one rear 140mm fan. And to top it off, it’s got two fan speed control knobs as well as top fins, which can be swung open to increase the airflow. It has top mounted I/O ports which consist of two USB 3.0, one e-SATA, two USB 2.0 and of course your audio out and MIC in.

Inside, the rig is designed to fit up to XL-ATX motherboards. It has six 5.25” and six 3.5” drive bays as well as 10 expansion slots with support to 330mm video cards. The right side panel can be opened to access the rubber grommets for cable management, giving your computer rig a cleaner look. The power supply is bottom mounted and comes with an air filter to reduce the amount of dust that gets into your system. rosewill-case-4

After using this rig for two weeks, I’m pretty pleased with its performance. I’ve tucked it away in the corner and despite its size (Dimensions: 22.84″ x 9.14″ x 21.89″), I sometimes forget that I have it there. After installing all my hardware, I’m still left with enough room for future upgrades. Whether it is extra hard drives or a beefed up graphics card, the THOR V2 case leaves me with plenty of options. The only downside that I have with the gaming case is that it’s extremely heavy, and I mean heavy. The case weighs in at about 30lbs, and that’s with nothing inside. Every time I move my rig I feel like I’m getting a workout.

Overall I would recommend the Rosewill Thor V2 case for any PC enthusiasts looking to upgrade their system, or to first-time builders who are looking for a case that can last them a long time.

The case comes in two colors, black with red LEDs and white with blue LEDs. You can pick up the Rosewill Thor V2 gaming case on newegg.com for $119.99.
