Popular character actor and Coen Brothers’ favorite, Jon Polito passed away yesterday at City of Hope Hospital in Duarte, California. He was 65 years old.
Polito, known for his raspy voice, played in a number of Coen Brothers films, such as Miller’s Crossing and The Big Lebowski. He also was known for his role as Detective Steve Crosetti in NBC’s Homicide: Life on the Street, Closet competitor Earl Chambers on Modern Family, and landlord Sylvio on Seinfeld. His work also included working Off-Broadway, winning the Best Actor OBIE award in 1980.He received the Maverick Spirit Event Award at the Cinequest Film Festival in 2005.
Little do many know, Polito also voiced Chief Arnook in the Avatar: The Last Airbender animated series.
